Grampian Student Tutoring Scheme

This Scheme aimed to promote progression to further and higher education to school pupils via the voluntary placement of students in primary and secondary schools in the Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area. It involves students from Aberdeen College, Banff and Buchan College, The Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen and all schools in the local authority areas of Aberdeen City and Aberdeen shire. It started several years ago as a BP initiative. In practical terms, it worked by matching volunteer students with a primary or secondary school for placements which gave the student experience of life in the classroom and which benefited the pupils by giving them access to special projects undertaken by the students. The Scheme also encouraged students to promote further and higher education as a real option. The Forum funded the central administration of this Scheme for the academic years of 2001/02 and 2002/03. The Steering Group agreed not to request further funding from the Forum and the University of Aberdeen took on the responsibility for the administration.

Area covered: the North East (Aberdeen City in the main)
