Diverse Routes into Higher Education

This project was managed by The Open University in Scotland (OU) on behalf all of the four Regional Wider Access Forums.

Diverse Routes into Higher Education is an information pack and website providing information and support to encourage new and settled migrants, and black and minority ethnic groups - including refugees and asylum seekers - to explore the benefits of higher education.
Diverse Routes is designed to be used by learners with the support of practitioners working directly with these groups, and complements the work of the Scottish Refugee Council and initiatives such as New Roots Scotland to encourage the integration of new migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland through education, employment, enterprise and training.

Diverse Routes contains general information about accessing higher education, including financial support, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning, professional development and English language courses. Local information is also provided about access and English language courses, as well as contacts for further advice and support for the North Forum area. Case studies of individual learning journeys illustrate the choices that can be made and the range of support available.

Since its launch in May 2006, over 5,000 Diverse Routes packs have been distributed across all four Regional Forums and the website (www.diverseroutes.co.uk) has received over 26,000 hits.

Area covered: the whole of Scotland
