Data Collection project

The Forum is committed to identifying the groups of people that are under-represented in FE and HE, so that action can be taken to increase their numbers participating in post-compulsory education.

This project was commissioned from The Robert Gordon University in September 2005. It aimed to provide data to support the continuous development of the Forum’s work programme in order to succeed in delivering the Forum’s strategy. The project has:

identified progression rates into FE and HE from each school in the Forum's area over the period 1998/99 – 2003/04 and mark those that are in the lowest 30%,
analysed data available on school leavers to provide information about the % who pursue FE, HE, employment and those who just leave. To provide this analysis by total pupils and by gender,
identified the lowest 20% of deprivation zones in the area (from the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) and compare this against the national picture, and
created maps of the Forum’s area with the schools with the lowest progression rates and the deprivation zones in the lowest 20% marked on it. to compare this against the national and regional picture.

The package allows the Forum to identify general and local trends and to identify areas where future projects and joint work might be targeted. The outcome has been used to inform planning for new projects and is the basis of the schools identified for interventions within ASPIRENorth. The data is available in electronic format.
